The all-new Land Rover Discovery Sport has earned a top rating in the European NCAP crash test, garnering a perfect 5 stars.
Safety will no doubt be a top priority for families considering the Discovery Sport when it arrives next spring in the US. And while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has yet to test the newest Land Rover, we expect it to achieve top results in that testing as well.
As you can see in the video below, the Disco Sport will arrive packed with airbags, including knee and thorax bags. Also seen in the video, but not bound for North America, are hood-mounted airbags designed to minimize trauma in the event of a collision between the Discovery and a pedestrian. This type of safety feature is now a requirement in Europe, where this type of accident is much more common.
What the really video truly reveals is just how solidly the passenger cell is constructed, and the degree of energy management engineered into the rest of the body. Intrusions into the passenger compartment are minimal for the types of collisions in this test battery. For comparison, check out how the Discovery II, with its traditional body-on-frame construction, compares in the offset frontal test.
