Alloy+Grit Partners with Omada Adventure for Inaugural Rebelle Rally
Alloy+Grit, North America’s Independent Land Rover Magazine, has partnered with the two-person Omada Adventure team campaigning a Land Rover LR4 in the inaugural running of the Rebelle Rally, an all-female off-road navigation challenge, from October 13-22, 2016. Alloy+Grit will be the team’s media partner, providing exclusive team coverage of the event on alloyandgrit.com and through the magazine’s social media network
The Rebelle Rally is an off-road rally open exclusively to female competitors, challenging drivers and co-drivers to use traditional navigation skills to negotiate an undisclosed route. Modern navigational aids are not allowed – no cell phones, no GPS – just a route book, map, calculator and compass. Teams must pass designated checkpoints to determine the accuracy of their travel in conditions that will include a combination of desert two-track, dirt roads, and sand dunes. In total, the rally will cover more than 1200 miles over the course of seven daily stages.
Deborah Najm and Julie Pickslay make up the Omada Adventure team (Omada being Greek for “team”), and they will use their backgrounds in outdoor adventure to tackle the challenges of the Rebelle Rally. Based in Orange County, CA, Najm is an active mother, athlete, and business operator, helping to run Off The Grid Rentals with her husband. Pickslay, a SoCal native now living in San Louis Obispo, CA, is also an active athlete and adventure traveler who works as a private fitness instructor
The two women will use Najm’s 2012 Land Rover LR4 as their rally mount, competing in the 4×4 division among other Land Rovers, Jeeps and pickups. As Najm sees it, “ This is my everyday adventure car. It gets my daughter to dance competitions, my son to football games and me to the gym. It’s also the same vehicle I drove to the 2015 Western National Land Rover Rally where I took second place. It’s the perfect combination of comfort and toughness for a grueling week in the desert.”
Alloy+Grit will chronicle Team Omada’s daily progress as the rally occurs, beginning with the kickoff on October 13, and will feature a full story on the journey in the Spring 2017 issue of the magazine.
