Land Rover has confirmed that the fifth-generation Discovery model will make its world debut on September 28, 2016, just ahead of the Paris Motor Show. The North American debut is expected to take place on November 15 during the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Discovery 5 will replace the outgoing LR4 (known throughout the rest of the world as the Discovery 4) and will arrive as a 2017 model in late winter or early spring of 2017. It’s expected that the full-size new Discovery – not to be confused with the compact Discovery Sport – will be configured as a true seven-seater as standard when it arrives.
The lone early teaser photo indicates the new Discovery 5 will take its design direction from 2014 Discovery Vision Concept. Wile the shape appears sleeker and less boxy than the current Discovery/LR4, the form is still designed for generous accommodation.
More details will flow in the weeks to come, but the new Discovery should break some new territory for Land Rover while still feeling familiar to current owners.
